Susegado

We first heard the word Susegado from an old Goan acquaintance. We didn't know what it meant then. When we found out, we smiled. It meant the art of simply being present.

There are afternoons in Goa that feel borrowed from another time. The bougainvillea catches the breeze and the sand holds the warmth. No one is rushing.

We open with bergamot and cassis because that first breath of a Goa afternoon always carries a little sharpness. A brightness that wakes you up before the warmth pulls you back in.

Rose and jasmine take over. Not flamboyant. Not demanding. Then sandalwood and musk settle at the base. Soft, grounded, unhurried. The perfume lingers the way a perfect afternoon does.
